Custom panel design and manufacture to support 27 kilometres of tunnel construction – enabling safe, efficient lighting across the underground Snowy 2.0 network.

As part of enabling works for Snowy 2.0, FGJV required a robust temporary lighting system to support tunnel-boring and lining across 27 kilometres of underground works. To meet this need, PHE Group was engaged to design and construct tunnel lighting boards suitable for high-reliability use in challenging, moisture-prone environments.

Fabrication and testing were completed in one of PHE Group’s Queensland-based workshop, with panels transported to site for installation during tunnelling operations. The project demanded durable construction, consistent supply, and careful sequencing to align with tunnel advancement.

Project Scope

  • Design and manufacture of approximately 90 tunnel tunnel lighting boards for use during TBM and lining operations.
  • Fabrication of 4x transformer panels to distribute power across lighting networks.
  • Pre-delivery testing and quality checks completed prior to site mobilisation.

Outcomes and Benefits

  • Panels were designed for harsh underground environments with high humidity and limited access.
  • In-house engineering and build process streamlined production and QA controls.
  • Delivered through PHE's workshop to maximise build consistency and delivery efficiency.
  • Compact, modular design simplified installation and maintenance within the tunnels.
  • Improved site readiness by delivering fully tested panels to meet installation milestones.
  • Strengthened PHE Group’s fabrication and delivery credentials under FGJV for Snowy 2.0.
